Accommodation during COVID-19

We are committed to creating a safe home environment and a sense of belonging for students living in halls.

Students can find all the COVID-19 accommodation information in their pre-arrival induction pack and welcome booklet, as well as regular updates in the ResLife newsletter.

Keeping you safe

Here at Staffordshire University, we are doing everything we can to support our students through the COVID-19 pandemic – both now and into the future.

COVID-SECURE MEASURES

Having a clean living environment is very important to reduce the risk associated with COVID-19. We would encourage everyone to clean as you go and use any cleaning materials that are provided for you. Cleaning supplies in the shared communal kitchens will be provided at the start of the academic year.

You’ll notice several posters up around your accommodation and campus. These are here to remind you of your responsibilities and the advice for living in our accommodation safely. Make sure to remind yourself of these messages regularly.

Hand sanitiser units are located in the entrances of all accommodation blocks and houses, and anyone entering accommodation must wear a face covering when using the communal stairwells to keep themselves and others safe.

FACE COVERINGS ON CAMPUS

It is very important that we all work together to keep our campuses COVID-secure. Face coverings must be worn in the communal areas of all University and Students' Union buildings, unless you are exempt. Posters are displayed across all campuses to act as reminders. More details on our face coverings policy (and exemptions) can be found on our face coverings page.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

In line with Government guidance, stating that social distancing is no longer mandatory in Step 4 of the roadmap, we have removed the one-metre plus (1m+) social distancing policy in our University buildings, including offices, lecture theatres and classrooms. More information can be found on our COVID-secure campuses page.

For the latest information concerning our University’s response to the pandemic, please continue to check the Beacon app.

University-managed accommodation

2021/2022

Accomodation will be open in 2021 with COVID-secure measures in place. Government guidance is constantly being reviewed and we will continue to keep students updated.

Private accommodation

We are continuing to work closely with our Students’ Union to encourage private landlords to ensure they are prioritising the health, safety and wellbeing of our students.

Students living in private accommodation should seek guidance on their accommodation position from their landlords. The University and the Students’ Union will also continue to liaise with private landlords to remind them of their responsibilities to our students. If you encounter any difficulties with private landlords, you can contact the Staffordshire University Students’ Union Advice Centre on 01782 294629, or by emailing sac@staffs.ac.uk. Our team are in place to offer support, guidance and advocacy wherever necessary.

Will I still be able to socialise?

We’re delighted that government guidance now allows for more flexibility for you to safely socialise with your friends and family. Make sure you understand what restrictions are still in place when you’re in your accommodation.

We also want to make sure you have the opportunity to regularly socialise with others outside of your household. There will be plenty of events, both face-to-face and virtual, that will give you opportunities to have a safe and fun experience while you’re living in our accommodation. You can also safely socialise with others from outside your household in any of the outdoor spaces or facilities that are open to students around campus. Please follow all Government advice on meeting up with people from outside of your household.

The advice and guidance on dealing with COVID-19 is changing regularly. We will always review the most up to date guidance and adapt our approach and policies accordingly. The University want to make sure you’re supported and looked after whilst you’re living with us. It’s important to remember that all of the support services the University offer are available to you. The best way to deal with any issues that you’re having is to speak up or tell someone. This way, you can get the best support appropriate to you.

What if I need to self-isolate?

If you are told to self-isolate and you would feel more comfortable doing so at your family home, you can travel there by car if it is safe to do so. If you are not able to relocate to a different address, or if you would prefer to self-isolate in your term-time accommodation, our team will be on hand to provide the guidance and support you need.

If you are a student and have been advised by a physician or NHS guidance to self-isolate, please notify us by completing the COVID-19 Self Isolation Declaration Form  and calling the Staffordshire University Coronavirus Helpline on 01782 298500. All students living in University-managed accommodation will have received information about the self-isolation procedures and provision available for them. Please check your student email account for this guidance.

For further information on advice and support available to those who are self-isolating, please check your student email address for this guidance.
